Tepco’s latest thermal power tender falls short

State-controlled Japanese utility Tokyo Electric Power(Tepco) has secured 1.45GW of thermal power generationcapacity in its latest tender, less than a quarter of itstargeted 6GW.The awarded capacity comprises five coal-fired plants tobe provided by four Japanese firms — wholesale electricityproducer J-Power, oil refiner TonenGeneral, steelmakerNippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal and the HitachinakaGeneration joint venture between Tepco and fellow utilityChubu Electric Power. Tepco has not revealed details of howmuch capacity each firm will provide.
