North Carolina acts to speed coal-to-gas switches

Both houses of North Carolina's legislature last week unanimously passed a bill that would allow Progress Energy to win speedy regulatory approval for swapping unscrubbed coal-fired plants in eastern North Carolina to natural gas. The bill is currently awaiting the signature of state Gov. Bev Perdue (D).
