Ocean carriers in the major east-west trades did not have a happy second quarter this year. With the exception of the minor eastbound transatlantic route, all of the indicated trades suffered a decline in rates compared to Q1, though not to the 'meltdown' levels suggested in some other publications. That said, the single figure reductions shown may become more appreciable if quantified on an annualised basis.
