On February 1, 2001, the 16 lines of the Trade Facilitation Group (TFG), operating between Australia and South East Asia, took the historic step of charging freight rates in US dollars for the first time. In a deal struck with the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA), the TFG pioneered a move which has now spread to all deepsea export trades in what was described at the time as a 'win-win' situation.
