Growing projects

The US might well be a relatively mature market in terms of logistics and supply chain management, but a number of US-based niche operators are benefiting from an upsurge in project cargo opportunities there in the last couple of years. It is not only global third-party logistics provider (3PL) giants in the handling of heavylift and oversized shipments - such as PanProjects (part of Panalpina), Exel, Transglobal and Kuehne+Nagel - but also relatively small freight forwarders and 3PLs that are reaping the rewards of their specialist projects' expertise in the improved climate. These include Mallory Alexander, Miller & Thompson and the fast-growing Pennsylvania-based freight forwarder and logistics provider 5-K Logistics. General manager Raymond Hummer Jr told CI: 'In the last two years, we have noticed a substantial increase in investment by US-based companies, including some major multinationals, in the power generation and construction industries.'
