Spanish power market reforms may cause the country's larg-est biomass-fired power plant to close, according to local lawmakers in the southern region of Andalusia. The proposed reclassification of some biomass feedstock by Madrid will impact the 50MW plant run by Ence,Spain's largest biomass power and heat producer, based in the An-dalusian province of Huelva, officials from Andalusia's energy agency said. “There is a real danger that the plant at Huelva could close,”lawmaker and representative on the Andalusian en-ergy council Jose Fiscal said. The local authority in Andalusia plans to hold talks with the company and unions to aid the firm in lobbying the government. It has already held a meet-ing with Ence chairman Juan Arregui over the difficulties faced by the plant, early this month.
