South Korean state-owned utility Kosep is awaiting clarity from the government on new rules that will affect biomass consumption. “The government has not decided on[the level]of a proposed cap on wood pellet co-firing yet,but a cap is expected to come into effect,”Kosep’s fuel development manager,Oh Hee-Won,said. Kosep recently completed construction of the 870MW unit 5 at its Shinyeongheung thermal coal-fired power plant, located on Yeongheung island off the country’s northwest coast.Construction of the 870MW unit 6 is expected to be completed in December,raising the plants combined capac-ity to 5.1GW.
