World fleet changes in September 2005

During September, 32 containerships were ordered, with a total TEU capacity of 74,000TEU. As of October 1, 2005, the world order book for fully cellular ships reached a capacity of 4.27 million TEU, comprising over 1,100 ships. This represents 54.6% of the existing cellular fleet operating today. Panamax orders remained in fashion, with seven ships of this type confirmed. However, new orders of super-post-panamax tonnage have begun to slow down, with no orders since July. Paul Dowell, a research analyst of London-based broker Howe Robinson, confirmed that newbuild prices are definitely softening as a result. Also, additional building slots are mysteriously becoming available before the end of 2008, when none were said to be left before.
