Bulk asphalt prices narrowed to a $140-160/st range this week on new indications, while high precipitation slowed paving work in parts of the Rockies. Rain and snow in parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Utah - part of an early season storm system - obstructed construction activity for contractors finishing previously allocated jobs. But retail prices held static, as they have for much of the year, leaving comfortable margins for distributors as replacement costs have mostly declined. Buyers and sellers were watching the latest run-up in crude oil prices, which breached the $50/bl mark this week, for clues to the 2016 wholesale “winter fill” season.
