Railed and waterborne asphalt prices were generally rangebound, with railed material indicated in the $180-205/st range. New deals were slow to materialize after the long Memorial Day holiday weekend following a flurry of price activity last week ahead of the start of June. Heavy crude supply remained a concern for some Midwest refineries, with at least two major asphalt suppliers affected by the recent Alberta wildfires that impacted over 1mn b/d of oil sands production. Production at Husky Energy’s Sunrise oil sands thermal operation in Alberta, Canada has resumed. The fires forced the facility offline for over three weeks. The plant supplies asphalt to Husky-BP’s Toledo, Ohio refinery.
