Juiz de Fora-based intermodal operator MRS Logistica has come a long way since its start-up 10 years ago. It aims for a 20 increase in containers handled this year, to 135,000TEU, but Brazil's three-gauge rail system is just one of the challenges to be overcome. Rail operator MRS Logistica, headquartered in Juiz de Fora, south-eastern Brazil, has just returned record figures for containers handled during the first quarter of this year. The company, which operates some 1,700km of track, handled 30,500TEU of boxes from the beginning of January to the end of March. This represents a 22 increase over the 25,000TEU it handled during the same period of 2005.
