China correct its size

World figures for the number of pigs on farms will have to be substantially revised in 1999. The reason can be found at the heart of the Asian region - in the People's Republic of China. Although undoubtedly the world's largest pig-producing country, China has acknowledged that its own data on the size of the national livestock sector have been flawed. More accurate information is promised by the state statistical bureau for publication sometime this year and almost certainly will show a much smaller pig inventory than previously reported.
