Brazil cabotage boom

Brazil is expecting a boom in shipbuilding for cabotage services, especially containerships over the next few years, according to Roberto Galli, the newly-appointed executive vice-president of Syndarma, the Brazilian flag shipowners' association. The expansion would include 19 new container vessels, to be built in Brazil, more than doubling the number currently operating in cabotage services in the country. Much of the funding for the new ships would come from the Brazilian Merchant Marine Fund, which is administered mainly by the Brazilian National Development Bank.
