Think of major players in the US trucking industry and Omaha (NE)-headquartered Werner Enterprises is one name that immediately springs to mind. Werner Enterprises has grown since Clarence L Werner founded a one-man trucking operation in 1956 to become the fourth largest trucking company in the US, behind Schneider National, Swift Transportation Co and JB Hunt. It boasts a fleet of more than 8,000 trucks and 25,000 trailers, and a network of 37 offices in 19 states. But within the last 18 months, Werner Enterprises has expanded its operations considerably, to become much more than a trucking company.
