摘要

Asian pig prospects remain extremely positive, according to regional specialists who came to Bangkok in Thailand recently for the VIV Asia show. Although there are still a number of health issues to be addressed in both northern and southern segmentsof the region, many opportunities exist for production to grow substantially over the coming years. "I have seen forecasts that China could be producing over 50 million tons of pork (per year) by 2010, the Philippines about 1.25 million tons and Thailand up to 750 000 tons," one visitor commented. "They could easily be correct. The scale of investment that I see taking place, not only in those countries, makes me think the expansion of pig numbers in Asia is going ahead even if the market price has notbeen good this year."
