Valmet,Zilkha pair up on black biomass pellets

US biomass producer Zilkha Biomass Energy and global sup-plier Valmet have signed a five-year co-operation agreement to bring steam exploded black pellets to the global market. Zilkha has been developing the steam exploded technol-ogy at a demonstration plant in Crocket,Texas.Test quanti-ties have been supplied to several coal stations in Europe and Asia-Pacific. “We have had excellent results testing the performance of Zilkha black pellets at various power plants.They have successfully co-fired with coal,with a mixture ratio up to 70pc black pellets and 30pc coal.We have also ran 100pc pellets in some tests,”Zilkha chief executive Jack Holmes told Argus
