WORLD FLEET TURNS A CORNER

Finally, it seems, some sense is coming into the world containership fleet. After adding 100,000 teu last month, the total capacity of the fleet fell this month by 18,725 teu, leaving 10 fewer vessels on the water. While this capacity represents only one ultra large containership, it is the direction of travel that is important to note. At nearly 20m teu, according to Lloyd's List Intelligence - and over that mark by some calculations - the capacity available to carriers is far above that required by the economics of supply and demand.
