In an escalating diplomatic dispute, Venezuela has closed its borders to Colombian coal shipments, threatening coal exports that totaled 1.8 million metric tonnes (mt) last year. A Venezuelan coal shipper, Luis Parada, told Argus today that movements of Colombian coal usually shipped from the state of Norte del Santander to Venezuelan ports located in Lake Maracaibo for export, have been paralyzed since early this morning, local time.
