Volume picked up in the afternoon after a light morning on the over-the-counter coal forward market, with little directional movement in a day dominated once again by the Nymex-spec Eastern barge coal contract. Prompt Eastern coal failed to strengthen on confirmation by International Coal Group that it would idle its Sago mine given low prices and high operating costs.
