NEW ALLIANCES UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT

Over the past several months, the future of container carrier alliances has been at the forefront of industry discussions, driven by the announcements of CMA CGM's acquisition of APL and the merger of the two Chinese carriers, Cosco and CSCL. As CMA CGM and APL were members of two different alliances (Ocean Three and G6) and Cosco and CSCL also were members of two different alliances (CKYHE and Ocean Three), the future of carrier alliances was uncertain, beyond the trivial observation that the 2M alliance would be unaffected by this major alliance shake-up.
