Hungary’s MVM mothballs Oroszlany coal plant

Hungarian state-owned utility MVM suspended power production at its 240MW coal and biomass-fired Oroszlany plant as of 1 January, as previously planned. The plant halted production because it failed to comply with stricter emission limits effective from 2016. It continued production after its Markushegyi mine was shut down at the end of 2014 and burnt coal from its remaining stocks and other sources last year. Oroszlany’s operation licence had been valid until the end of this decade.
