US biofuels producer NextCoal plans to build a biocoal and bio-oil production facility in New York state, targeting sales to Japanese power plants and domestic industrial consumers, respectively. Both fuels will be produced from a woody biomass feedstock. The plant will have a biocoal production capacity of 100,000 t/yr and NextCoal is exploring the possibility of using some bio-oil output to produce a chemicals product, it said.
