CSX has a favorable outlook for intermodal and automotive going into the fourth quarter, the lone bright spots as the eastern carrier projects declines in a host of shipping catego- ries, particularly crude and coal. The carrier cited increased highway-to-rail conversions and light-vehicle production in its favorable outlook for intermodal and automotive, but low commodity prices and the strong US dollar will slow other markets. Intermodal was up by 6pc in the quarter year-over-year to 731,000 cars moved, with domes- tic intermodal up by 15pc and international intermodal down by 5pc.
