(cw) At the end of May 2021, the Royal Navy aircraft carrier QUEEN ELIZABETH departed Portsmouth, UK to lead the widely anticipated Carrier Strike Group 21 (CSG21) deployment to the Indian Ocean and the Far East. The first British carrier deployment for over a decade, the group includes the Dutch frigate EVERTSEN and US destroyer THE SULUVANS (DDG-68) as well as various Royal Navy warships. However, possibly the most interesting aspect of the deployment is the embarkation of F-35B strike fighters from US Marine Corps Fighter Attack Squadron 211 on QUEEN ELIZABETH for the duration of the mission, where they will operate alongside similar aircraft from Royal Air Force 617 Squadron. The pursuit of integrated operations over such a sustained period by embarked carrier aircraft from two naval nations in the same air wing is unprecedented in modern times.
