Eu may agree 2030 climate targets in october

EU heads of state and government may agree 2030 climate and energy targets by October,but may choose not to bring forward final targets to a UN climate summit in September, according to a revised draft document seen by Argus today. EU leaders will meet in the EU Council summit on 20-21 March to discuss EU-wide emissions reduction and renew-able energy targets for 2021-30.The European Commission has already put forward a framework for energy and climate change policies up to 2030,including a binding 40pc green-house gas(GHG)emissions reduction target compared with 1990 levels,and a goal for renewables to make up a 27pc share of the EU's generation mix.But these targets must be agreed by member states before they can be implemented.
