Environmentalists sue EPA over cement mercury

A coalition of environmental groups filed suit against EPA Feb. 16. The groups claim EPA's new rule on cement kiln mercury does not address Clean Air Act requirements to regulate kiln emissions. The suit claims that EPA's recent rule amounts to "do-nothing housekeeping requirements" that will have no impact on mercury emissions. The Sierra Club and local activist groups in Texas, Michigan, California and Montana are parties to the lawsuit, which was filed in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. New York State is also expected to file a separate lawsuit today.
