North American wood pellet exports grew signifcantly in the frst two months of this year, driven almost entirely by the US. The US exported an average of 401,000 t/month in January-February, up strongly from 278,000 t/month for the same period in 2015. The UK accounted for the majority of the increase, receiving an average of 334,000 t/month, up by 35pc from 248,000 t/month a year earlier. UK utility Drax converted its 645MW unit 1 conversion to biomass co-fring in July last year, lifting UK industrial demand.
