The Yasui Operation

The Yasui operation was first reported in 1987 describing 2 infants with interrupted aortic arch and severe left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (IAA/LVOTO). These patients were treated by correction of the interrupted arch with an 8-mm polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) interposition graft from the ascending aorta to the descending aorta, a Damus-Stansel-Kaye connection of the proximal pulmonary trunk to the small ascending aorta, closure of the ventricular septal defect (VSD) channeling the left ventricular blood through the VSD to the pulmonary valve, and creation of right ventricular to pulmonary artery continuity with a 14-mm Hancock valved conduit (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN).
