BNSF Wins Battle For Scherer Business

Burlington Northern & Santa Fe has claimed victory over Union Pacific in the heated battle to transport Powder River Basin coal to Georgia Power's Scherer plant.BNSF confirmed Tuesday that it has secured a long-term agreement to serve as Scherer's exclusive carrier of PRB coal beginning Jan. 1, 2004. BNSF will transport the coal to Memphis, where it will then be picked up by Norfolk Southern for final delivery into the plant.
