The Italian residential wood pellet market is likely to reach 3mn t in 2015, 3pc growth in consumption on the year, Italian bioenergy association Aiel consultant Annalisa Paniz said Tuesday at the Argus European Biomass Trading conference. This growth forecast has been revised down from Aiel’s previous expectation for 3.5mn t in 2015 and is largely because of the second relatively mild winter in a row. “The Italian market will continue to grow, but slowly,” she said. “The potential for replacing existing heating systems with pellets is huge.”
