RW E's Scottish biomass plant may lose heat offtaker

German utility RWE looks set to lose the heat offtaker for its 46MW biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Markinch, Scotland, after paper manufacturer Tullis Russell entered administration. Markinch-based Tullis Russell's exports to Europe have struggled with the strong value of the pound sterling against the euro, it said. Rising raw material costs and the loss of a major customer because of insolvency have also been challenges for the company.
