Argentina kicks off renewables drive

Argentina will hold an auction for 1,000MW of renewables capacity, part of its plans to install 10GW from clean energy sources over the next decade. Wind power will make up the bulk of the new supply requested in the sale, providing 600MW, preliminary tender documents published by wholesale electricity administrator Cammesa on 18 May show. Solar will account for 300MW, followed by biomass with 65MW, small hydro with 20MW and biogas with 15MW. The projects must be built within two years and will require total investment of $1.5bn-2bn. A date has not yet been set for the auction.
