Portugal approves two new biomass-fired plants

Portuguese energy minister Jorge Seguro Sanches approved the construction of two 15MW biomass-fired thermal power plants in Viseu and Fundao this week. The two plants were successful in Portugal’s national public tender for forest biomass-fired thermal power plants, which was held in 2006. Allotted capacity awarded for four smaller projects in the tender was combined to allow the construction of the two 15MW plants.
