Russia moves to stimulate renewables generation

The Russian ministry of energy has approved amendments to the existing federal law on the promotion of the use of renewable sources of energy, introduced in 2013, to help bolster the uptake of renewable energy power generation within the country. The improved support mechanism applies to all types of renewables including biomass, biogas, and landfill gas. The resolution defines the procedure for long-term feedin-tariff regulation and outlines support mechanisms in the country’s retail market. Contained within the resolution is a mechanism that simultaneously obliges and compensates network companies to buy electricity generated from renewable energy.
