More capacity cuts for transpacific

Additional capacity cuts by members of the New World Alliance (NWA), plus seasonal adjustments to their deployment programmes by CMA CGM and the CKYH alliance go some way to revealing just how weak the eastbound transpacific trade is at the current time. In mid-December, the NWA, which had earlier announced cuts of close to 20% on its core Asia/west coast North America strings, said that 13% of slot capacity would be removed from its east coast via Panama canal network (see 'Alliances to pull ships out of transpacific for winter months,' CI December 2007, p9).
