US intermodal volumes down in 2007

The less than buoyant US economy is reflected in a decline in intermodal cargo volumes carried by Class I US railroads in 2007, compared with year 2006. As reported by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), last year 12,026,660 US containers and trailers were moved, a decrease of 2.1 %. According to the AAR there was a fairly even split between international and domestic intermodal traffic in the US.
