Taiwan ocean carrier Yang Ming has posted turnover of TWD67.6 (USD2.1) billion for the first six months of 2008, up 12 on the TWD59.9 (USD1.8) billion achieved in the same period in 2007. After-tax profit climbed 10, from TWD1.2 billion (USD37.9 million) to TWD1.3 billion (USD41.1 million), and while operating EBIT remained in the red, it rose 121, from -TWD2.6 billion (USD84.3 million) to -TWD57.5 (USD18) million. This led to a return on sales of-0.8, up from -4.6. Yang Ming's results are better this year, although the reasons for this are not clear from its accounts posted on the Taipei Stock Exchange. However, the company is another victim of sky rocketing bunker costs.
