First Solar eyes 3.3GW PV module plant in India

US-based First Solar plans to build its first photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu state, anticipating a rise in demand for domestically-produced solar products in India. First Solar, which produces thin film PV modules using its proprietary cadmium telluride (CadTel) semiconductor, expects the new 3.3GW plant to commence operations by the second half of 2023, subject to receiving approval of the necessary government incentives. The firm expects the Indian plant to reach about 3.0GW capacity by the year end of 2024 and reach its name place capacity of 3.3 GW in 2025.
