Never before in the history of the human race has there been such a rapidly spreading, and revolutionary social phenomenon as the diffusion of internet communication. Presently, only parts of Africa and Central Asia are not affected by the phenomenon, but it is only a matter of time. In 1991, there were 130,000 internet hosts in Europe. The number rose to 22,332,000 by the year 2001 and then mushroomed to 179,514,000 in 2011. The percentage of the European population that uses the internet is now as high as 90% in Sweden and averages around 70% in the member states of the European Union. It is 58.3% when all the countries of Europe are taken into account, whereas in the United States, 78.6% of the population are internet users. All over the world, the number of internet users continues to increase.
