Box weight matters

Shippers have been warned to pay more attention to the accuracy of declared cargo weights when booking space on ocean carriers' vessels. Although the clarion call is not new, what is likely to change is the compulsory weighing of all containers prior to loading, most probably by container terminal operators. Not only will this immediately identify consistent offenders, it could lead to overweight containers being held back to the next vessel, and penalised for the extra administration/handling involved.
