More carriers discard chassis

Niche transatlantic carrier Atlantic Container Line (ACL) is to join Maersk Line and OOCL in phasing out the provision of its own chassis. Commencing June 1, 2010, the New Jersey-based liner shipping company will shift all US carrier-arranged trucking moves to hauliers who furnish their own trailer equipment. ACL said that it had concluded negotiations with a broad range of drayage companies who it believes can manage chassis more cost-efficiently than an ocean carrier.
