US west coast (USWC) ports will be hoping to put 2009 behind them after a year of tumbling container volumes. A contraction in domestic demand and world trade severely hit both imports and exports while virulent competition from Canadian and US east coast (USEC) ports chipped away at their market share. However, recent months have shown some recovery in trade and the Pacific coast ports are ramping up their campaign to regain lost ground.
