Net losses spiral for South Korean-based liners

The Q3 09 fiscal results for Hanjin and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) revealed that the South Korean-based ocean carriers continued to be battered by the downturn. At group level, Hanjin made a net loss of USD338 million. This compared with the USD325 million deficit recorded in Q2 09. However, revenue of USD1.4 billion was up 10.7% on the previous quarter and its operating (EBIT) deficit of USD 199 million was also better (see table).
