The average utilisation of all vessels sailing from Asia to West Africa (defined as ports between Monrovia and Luanda inclusive) is estimated to have reached 91% in Q2 12, despite 10% of additional vessel capacity being deployed between April 1 and July 1 and a sharp decline in forecast cargo growth - from 15% down to 0%. Not surprisingly, average all-in westbound freight rates obtained on all cargo carried (ie spot and contract) stayed up therefore, hovering between USD990/TEU and USDl,039/TEU out of China, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).
