The Port of Miami wants a bigger bite of containerised perishables, both inbound to the US east coast from Latin America and for transhipment cargoes to Europe.Port director Bill Johnson, on a trip to Europe for a major fruit logistics conference, aims to accelerate Miami up the US box port league, where it holds 11th place, handling around 900,000 teu a year.According to the port authority's own statistics, the Americas generate 52% of Miami's container volumes, with Asia at 30% and Europe with 18%. Reefer boxes range between 15%-20% of total port throughputs.
