At a global level and based upon trade data available in mid-February 2013 (including from China and Brazil), MDS Transmodal estimated that total underlying maritime container volumes grew by 6% in 2012, compared with the previous year.This growth figure is consistent with volume data recently published by Maersk Line and CMA CGM.It means that container volumes moved in 2012 were about 28% higher than five years earlier, reflecting a compound growth rate of 5.1%. This was despite the intervening recession and collapse in traffic in 2009.
