THREE SCORPIONS IN A BOTTLE

As A leading advocate of normalisation of the liner shipping market, I strongly favoured a soft landing for the industry, to give it sufficient time to adapt to a competitive market following the abolition of liner conferences in trades to and from Europe back in October 2006. I therefore supported a two year lead-in to the repeal of conference block exemption regulation and the establishment of sector specific maritime competition guidelines (now withdrawn by common consent) to assist the industry with compliance. I wanted to avoid damaging legal disputes, but above all, I longed for an environment where shippers and carriers could build collaborative business partnerships, and where appropriate, jointly campaign on issues that would enhance standards and performance in the maritime supply chain.
