Brussels and lines try to settle price-signalling probe

Top maritime regulators are to meet this month to review antitrust concerns amid mixed messages on whether Brussels is close to a settlement with carriers over price signalling claims. The European Commission's directorate-general for competition will host the Global Maritime Regulatory Summit on June 18, with senior officials from the US, China and Europe attending. Top of the agenda will be the impact on competition of the new global alliances formed by leading container lines and other industry developments. This will be a follow-up to the inaugural get-together in Washington 18 months ago, when the new alliances of the world's top ocean carriers were just taking shape.
