Operative Anatomy, now in its third edition, seeks to provide surgeons with a single, integrated reference for both surgical technique and the relevant anatomy. The scope of the text is broad, encompassing the majority of cases that fall under a traditional characterization of general surgery. This third edition is expanded to 109 chapters, covering open, laparoscopic, percutaneous, and endo-scopic procedures. It ranges from the very basic, such as central venous catheterization and appendectomy, to the complex including pancreaticoduodenectomy and major hepa-tectomy. Procedures covered include those recently described, such as laparoscopic gastric banding, as well as those that have almost, but not quite, passed into the realm of historical interest, such as highly selective vagotomy and lumbar sympathectomy. It also includes aspects of thoracic, vascular, and gynecologic surgeries that are performed by general surgeons in many locations.
