According to the Pentagon's 2018 report to Congress on China's military power, the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) boasts 2,700 aircraft (not including UAVs), of which 2,020 are fighters, bombers and attack aircraft. Most of these combat aircraft platforms are of second- and third-generation technology, but a growing number of fourth-generation (4G) types will tilt the PLAAF into a 4G majority fighter force by 2020 or soon thereafter.
